Art Pavilion

IMG_0860.png

This is a unique art gallery in that it is designed to display only a single painting from the renown Dutch master Johannes Vermeer. A transparent glass envelope is encased in white louvres to control natural lighting. Upon entry, visitors are met with three large vertical slabs which help define a viewing space in front of the painting. Visitors must pass between these slabs to view the artwork. Each slab represents a primary color which are strongly represented in Vermeer’s works. The slabs, in conjunction with the louvers, create a loose visual concealing of the painting from the exterior, meant to draw observers curiosity while not revealing what may be inside.

The layout of the louvers and supporting structure is defined by a set of offset circles. This underlying geometry is intended to reinforce the seemingly free-form, curvilinear geometries within the pavilion.
